In the region around the closed Turkey-Armenia border different time frames come to intertwine. Focusing on traces and remains of a dark history and a recent past which involves the Armenian, Kurdish and Yezidi communities surrounding the iconic mountain Ararat these series attempt to save them from oblivion and denial, and help us to remind. Using a seemingly direct and honest apparatus like the pinhole camera yet results in a collection of images revealing its shortcomings and mistakes as exposure times with camera obscura are long and techniques are beyond control. However, this deconstructed and fragmented translation of reality actually makes us aware of the fragile construction of history, memory, and of the image itself.
